Lacerte vs ProConnect

When to use offshore staff on Lacerte vs ProConnect Tax Online

Intuit sells two professional tax products that serve different firm profiles. Understanding which your firm uses – or should use – shapes how offshore staffing is structured.

Lacerte: desktop, high-complexity

Lacerte is the desktop product. It handles every return type, has the most developed multi-state coverage, and is the default in mid-to-large CPA firms that run tax as a core service line. For complex returns (multi-state 1065 with tiered partnerships, high-net-worth 1040 with extensive K-1 activity, estate 1041 with beneficiary allocations), Lacerte is typically the tool. Offshore preparers on Lacerte work through hosted environments (Right Networks, Intuit Hosting) or through your firm's own remote desktop.

ProConnect Tax Online: cloud, QBO-integrated

ProConnect is the cloud-native product. It works best for firms with a large QBO bookkeeping base who want direct trial balance import into the tax workflow. For simpler returns (small business 1120-S, S-corp with QBO-sourced books, straightforward 1040s), ProConnect eliminates data entry time. Firms running CAS + tax in the same engagement often prefer ProConnect because one login handles both.

Intuit Tax Advisor for tax planning

Intuit Tax Advisor (launched 2022) is Intuit's tax planning and advisory tool that integrates with both Lacerte and ProConnect. Offshore staff trained on advisor workflows use it for year-end scenario modeling, Roth conversion analysis, and tax-saving recommendations.

FAQ

Lacerte and ProConnect questions

Do you support both desktop Lacerte and cloud ProConnect?

Yes. Our tax preparer pool segments by software – Lacerte specialists, ProConnect specialists, and cross-trained staff. You get staff matched to your platform.

Can offshore preparers use Intuit Tax Advisor for planning?

Yes. Tax planning scenarios through Intuit Tax Advisor or Lacerte Tax Planner is part of standard scope for senior preparers. Advisory work pairs naturally with tax prep.

What about QBO-to-ProConnect integration?

Yes. Firms running QBO bookkeeping + ProConnect tax see the cleanest workflow – trial balance flows directly into the tax return with minimal data entry. Offshore preparers are trained on this integration.

Can you handle Schedule C / sole proprietor returns at high volume?

Yes. Junior preparers on Lacerte/PTO handle 300–400 simple Schedule C returns per season. This is a common specialization for firms serving gig-economy and small-business clients.

Is client data portal collection supported through Intuit Link?

Yes. Intuit Link for client document collection, e-signature Form 8879, and client portal communication is standard workflow.

How do you handle PTE elections and state complexity?

State-specific PTE elections (New York PTET, California 3804, Connecticut, etc.) are part of standard multi-state scope. Our preparers stay current on state PTE changes year over year.
